Move, Breath, Rest
Thinking about health beyond diet and exercise. Also, coming soon- nourishing, ready to heat and eat meals delivered to your door throughout the Northern Rivers.
Hello there,
For many years, did you learn that being healthy was about what you ate and how much exercise you did? Food was labelled good or bad and movement meant exercise that only really included cardio and/or strengthening your muscles? I certainly did for a long time. Even if you dreaded the type of exercise and ate *kale/quinoa/chia (*insert on trend health food) wherever you could hide it despite wishing for food that gave you more pleasure?
**No offence to kale/quinoa/chia! I have eaten and served up my fair share of all three and they are amazing (super), often delicious foods. But you get my drift.
Overtime and through yoga (which, let’s be honest has its own association to a toxic diet and exercise culture) I began to realise that feeling well is far greater than what we eat and how much or hard we exercise.
So, having said all that, there are three small areas to health that I am going to be learning, practicing and sharing. They are Move, Breath and Rest.
Move
- The idea of moving more of the body, more often.
- Consider incorporating movement into everyday life rather than focussing on planned exercise sessions alone.- Exploring moving joyfully and for pleasure, rather than punishment.
- I want to reinforce that planned exercise sessions are so important for our health, but we’ve all already learnt that and many of us still find it hard to move a lot. I want to explore movement in different ways, on top of your regular planned exercise sessions.Breathe
- Breathing well by breathing how the body is designed to. Known as corrective breathing. Creating space in the body so it can breathe well.
- Daily pranayama exercises that immediately effect the nervous system. Boost your digestion, improve sleep, increase empathy and creativity.
- Integrative breath work. This amazing breathwork meditation can release stored emotions from the body. It feels amazing and it’s quite astonishing that so many emotions can pass through us simply breathing like this.Rest
Once upon a time we probably wouldn’t have to advocate rest as a practice. However now, being so connected all the time, a lot of us are in need of more rest. While getting quality sleep fits in here, I also want to explore the power of rest itself as a practice. Restorative yoga, guided yoga Nidra meditations, savasana and breath work, but also any activity that is truly restful for you. Letting go of letting go!
Feed the Yogi. Coming soon!
If you’ve been in Yamba for a while now, you might remember the granola I used to make and serve during my yoga weekends, I called it Feed the Yogi.
I’ve also used this name for a recipe e-book I put together a couple of years ago, and now I am reinventing it again!
This time, it’s for a home delivery meal service I am in the early stages of creating. I’m quite excited for this! It will be meals similar to those I serve during my yoga weekends, such as kicharee, dahl, curries, salads and snacks. There will be both vegetarian and meat dishes but they will all be nourishing and seasonal.
I know myself as a working mother it can be so hard for many of us to find the time, energy and creativity to think of cooking yet another meal. Takeaway is an option, but we know it doesn’t often make us feel good. This is where I hope I can help!
If you live (or holiday) in the Northern Rivers and would love some wholesome meals once a week, with plenty of freezer friendly options then you can follow my page below.
While the menu isn’t available for ordering just yet, you can sign up and be the first to find out!
Thanks so much for reading. I appreciate it so much! If you know of someone who may enjoy this please do forward it on to them. I’d be so grateful.
