This week I have a question for you, and I would absolutely love you to take a moment to leave a comment. It’s much like a comment on instagram or social media, so you can make it quick! I haven’t done this on Substack before but now is a good time to start. Here it is!….
Can you tell me in a sentence or two; what is stopping you from moving more? Time? Pain? You don’t enjoy it? You don’t know how to start?
When I say moving, I mean either a planned session (like exercise or a yoga class for example) as well as moving your body naturally throughout your day such as walking to do errands or sitting on the floor more often, being aware of changing the position of your body.
If you like, read this previous post to start to think about movement more broadly, not just as scheduled exercise.
Some examples (but please don’t let these limit you)
I don’t have time
It makes me feel anxious because I’m not doing more pressing things on my list
I feel pain in my body when I move
I don’t enjoy it
I don’t wear suitable clothing to include movement in my day
I don’t know where to start
As I get older, I’m worried I might injure myself
I’m really interested in designing our lives to include more natural movement as well as planned sessions, so I thank you so much for helping me see where people feel there are barriers.
I think starting is the hardest part, and I find myself fidgeting and frittering time away, stalling practice or a walk, even though I desperately want and crave movement.
I love to move! For me, I don't move as much as I'd like to when a. I haven't planned for it (like a class) or b. I get caught up in things. Digital distractions are such a time-suck. My ideal day is productive but also spacious. Spaciousness always gives me more opportunities to move more and be more "in" my body. Jo x
Thanks Jo! If it’s planned then it’s more likely to happen. Digital distractions are indeed such a time-suck. So great to have this info to help us all move more more of the body more often. x

I so agree Erica! Sometimes it’s getting on the mat or on the foot path that is the hardest part. Once we’re there it seems top flow. x
